Stephen Grove claimed round honours and victory in the final race of a roller-coaster Adelaide 500 weekend in Porsche Payce Carrera Cup Australia.

The Grove Group founder ended the opening round of the series out with a first-place finish in Pro-Am in Race 3 after making improvements from qualifying.

It also saw him take out the Adelaide round win in the Pro-Am class.

After a topsy-turvy Race 1 and a result of fourth in Pro-Am, Grove climbed to third in class for the second race following overnight changes to the car.

The Melburnian got off to a flying start in Race 3, however, an early incident necessitated a lengthy safety car period and an abbreviated race.

While the race did not go green again, Grove crossed the line at the head of the Pro-Am field, his 14th Pro-Am race victory, which was enough for 11th outright.

He now leads the class standings after the opening round in South Australia.

“The first day we had really good pace in the two practice sessions and it was a really positive start to the weekend being my first time back in a Cup car after Bathurst,” said Grove.

“Then we got to qualifying and that was tough, we just didn’t maximise what we needed to maximise and that set us back for Race 1 which didn’t go to plan at all.

“It wasn’t ideal but we kept chipping away at it and we got some pace back in Race 2 which put us in a better position there and we finished reasonably.

“We continued to recover in Race 3, got a good start and pushed hard but unfortunately the race was stopped so it was over before it really even began.

“It’s great to get another win and head to the Grand Prix in Melbourne and see what we can do there.”

Round 2 for Porsche Payce Carrera Cup Australia takes place at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne from March 13-15.
