Grove’s new Porsche set for first Bathurst run

Grove Motorsport will make the trip to Mount Panorama, Bathurst this weekend for the second round of Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS.

Having debuted their Porsche 911 GT3 R at Phillip Island the team will take the newly-acquired car to Bathurst for its first run around the Mountain from April 2-4.

Stephen and Brenton Grove will have the chance to open up the taps of the flat-six on the most famous 6.213km in Australian motorsport for Round 2 of GTWC Australia.

They arrive off the back of an overall podium result in the most recent race and are third in the Pro-Am standings heading into Bathurst.

Meanwhile, Stephen was in action last weekend in Carrera Cup Australia at Sandown and will have to adapt back to the driving style of the GT3 R.

GTWC Australia’s event at Bathurst comes in the absence of this year’s Bathurst 12 Hour which was cancelled due to travel restrictions.

However, the chance to compete at Mount Panorama brings out plenty of smiles within the team

“I’m really looking forward to driving the GT3 R around Bathurst but it’s going to be a completely different feel as a sprint event,” said Stephen.

“We’ll have data that we can take and base some stuff off of that, but it’s different conditions and a different style of weekend to the 12 Hour.

“The biggest challenge for me is to try and get up to speed really quickly in driving the GT3 R because they are completely different, especially in the braking area.

“There’s 200-300psi difference in pressure in the braking and the car turns really quickly, it’s very direct compared to a Cup car where you’ve got to hustle it through a corner.

“That’s going to be the main point for this weekend is getting back up to speed as quickly as possible.

“You need to be really precise across the top of the Mountain and that’s where the difficulty is in adapting to the cars at a point on the circuit where there is no room for error.”

The weekend’s format features a pair of hour-long races, one each on Saturday and Sunday.

Both races will be broadcast live and free on the screens of Seven in Australia.
