Making Room for 100 More Students at Bentleigh West Primary School

Supporting a growing school community with modular learning spaces

Grove are pleased to have delivered a new 10-module General Purpose Classroom facility at Bentleigh West Primary School, providing approximately 445sqm of additional building space for up to 100 students.

With approximately 316sqm of internal room space, the new facility provides additional teaching and learning capacity for the school. The project combined off-site manufacturing with carefully coordinated delivery and on-site works, with a strong focus on safety, efficiency and minimising disruption within a live school environment.

Manufacturing of the 10 modules was completed in 3 months, allowing a significant portion of the construction to take place within a controlled factory environment. The building was then delivered during the school holidays to minimise the impact of major transport and installation activities on students and staff.

All 10 modules were installed in just one day, demonstrating the efficiency of modular construction when delivering additional infrastructure within an existing school. Following installation, Grove continued with the remaining construction, external and landscaping works while the school was operational.

With students and staff back on site, safety and minimising disruption remained key priorities. Strategic positioning of the temporary fencing and construction compound maintained clear separation between construction activities and the school community, while also allowing the school to retain access to a substantial portion of its oval throughout the works.

The existing site levels presented additional considerations for the Grove team. The completed facility incorporates two stair towers and a 4-metre-long retaining wall at the rear of the building.

Landscaping and new tree planting were incorporated into the external works to provide additional screening and help integrate the new facility with its surroundings.

From off-site manufacture and a one-day module installation through to carefully managed works within an operational school, the Bentleigh West Primary School project demonstrates how modular construction can provide additional learning capacity while prioritising safety, efficiency and minimal disruption to the school community.

The result is a new learning facility providing space for up to 100 students, supporting the continued growth of the Bentleigh West Primary School community.
